About Me

Tyler was born in Park Ridge, Illinois and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. He received his undergraduate degree in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Nevada, Reno, and his Master of Public Health with a concentration in Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology from the University of California at Berkeley.

Although Tyler has loved science since he was a child, it took him awhile to figure out the exact path he wanted to pursue. For years, he planned to get a PhD in microbiology and work in wet lab research, but after a few years working in that field he found that he was more interested in statistical analysis and areas that were generally more directly related to health. As a result, he changed course from his path to a PhD and applied to MPH programs instead, which ultimately lead him to work in infectious disease epidemiology research at the Kaiser Permanente Division of Research, where he focused primarily on studies of COVID-19 before joining the BSCU in 2025.

Going forward, Tyler continues to enjoy medical research and sees himself working in this field for the foreseeable future. He aspires to be at the forefront of cutting-edge, innovative research and work in an environment where he gets to contribute to the scientific process.

In his free time, Tyler enjoys outdoor activities, including running and rock climbing. He is a self-described video game nerd and enjoys trying out new recipes in the kitchen and making pickled vegetables and home-brewed kombucha. He has also recently rediscovered his love of writing poetry and non-fiction.
