About Me

Zahra received her Bachelor of Science in Global Disease Biology from the University of California at Davis, and her Master of Public Health in Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology from University of California at Berkeley.

Zahra’s interest in infectious disease epidemiology originated in college and developed further in graduate school when she worked in hepatitis C surveillance at the California Department of Public Health. In this role, she realized that the lack of patient-level data makes it difficult to study important questions and has since found that the rich Kaiser Permanente Northern California databases make it easier to understand population-level health concerns.

Since joining the BSCU, Zahra has conducted research in infectious disease, obstetrics & gynecology, pediatrics, and other fields. She also supervises and mentors other BSCU analysts. In the future, she aims to continue conducting epidemiologic research with high clinical impact.

In her free time, Zahra enjoys hand embroidery, gardening, strength training, and reading historical or contemporary fiction.
